GitHub has added GPT-6.1 Terra to paid Copilot plans, with a gradual rollout and administrator controls. Test the work you actually do before changing your default.

01
THE CONTEXT

Look in your account before changing the plan

GitHub announced GPT-6.1 Terra in Copilot on 26 October, covering Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise. The rollout is gradual, so not seeing the model immediately does not establish an account fault. The announcement lists supported surfaces including IDEs, the CLI, cloud agent, Copilot app, github.com and mobile. Business and Enterprise administrators can control model access. Check your actual account and policy before buying anything to obtain it.

02
WHY IT MATTERS

Availability and value are different questions

GitHub positions Terra for everyday coding and terminal work and describes a lower cost than GPT-6.1 Sol. It says billing follows provider list pricing under usage-based billing. Those statements do not give us a fixed UK invoice or prove that Terra will finish your task more cheaply. We have not independently tested the model. Supplier descriptions of early performance should not be read as a HubAI recommendation.

03
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Give it one real, bounded job

A useful comparison could be a failing test you already understand. Save the starting commit, use the same instructions with your existing model and Terra, and keep the acceptance test unchanged. Record whether the fix passes, what the reviewer had to correct and the actual usage cost. One result is only a starting point; repeat on different tasks before deciding that a new default is worthwhile. Keep private code within your organisation’s approved environment.

04
THE CONTEXT

Keep a fallback while you compare

Do not make a model switch and a workflow redesign at the same time. Keeping your current review and release steps makes it easier to see what changed. If Terra is missing, check the rollout and administrator settings first; do not assume that another subscription will solve it. If it is present, try it on reversible work before granting a wider job. The accompanying artwork is a conceptual model illustration, not a benchmark chart or evidence of the product interface.

HUBAI VIEW

A new model in the picker is a reason to compare results, not to move a production workflow without checking it.

What to verify next

1Check the model picker and organisation policy.

2Compare the same task against your current model.

3Measure corrections and actual usage cost.

4Keep the existing review process and fallback.
