The verified rollout and cost boundary
Short answer: the launch is real, but the rollout is staged
Microsoft announced the new Copilot experience on 25 September 2026. Home combines Chat, Cowork and Office work; Code builds apps and workflows; Autopilot is designed to keep working in the background. Home and Code are due to appear through the Frontier programme first, while Autopilot is entering private preview. Buyers should not treat the announcement as immediate general availability across every UK tenant, plan or device.
Home makes Copilot a work surface rather than a chat tab
Home brings conversations, documents and agentic Cowork tasks into one starting point. That can reduce switching between Copilot surfaces, but it also raises a governance question: which files, people, meetings and connected systems can a request reach? A polished front door does not replace tenant permissions, data classification, retention, audit and review of generated output.
Code builds apps inside a managed workspace
Microsoft says Code uses the same underlying approach as GitHub Copilot to turn natural-language requests into applications and workflows. It runs in a sandboxed environment and can connect to Microsoft 365 data and services when authorised. Code is scheduled to enter Frontier first, with broader availability in the following weeks and Microsoft 365 Premium and Pro access described for later in 2026. There is no single public API or model identifier for the whole Copilot suite.
Autopilot is persistent—and still a private preview
Autopilot is described as a proactive agent with its own identity, memory, computer and workspace inside the customer's tenant. That could support recurring work across Outlook, Teams, documents and business systems, but persistence expands the blast radius of a bad instruction or excessive permission. The private preview should be treated as a controlled evaluation: named owner, narrow objective, explicit approvals, limited data, observable actions, revocation and recovery.
The UK seat price is not the complete price
Microsoft's UK enterprise page lists Microsoft 365 Copilot at £23.10 per user per month, paid yearly, excluding VAT and requiring a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan. The Business add-on is normally listed at £16.10, with a £13.80 promotional price through 31 December 2026. Microsoft separately says long-running Cowork, Code and Autopilot work uses usage-based billing. Budget the qualifying licence, Copilot seat, consumption, connected products, implementation, monitoring and human review together.
Frontier access needs both entitlement and opt-in
For business tenants, Microsoft says Frontier requires an active Microsoft 365 Copilot Business licence and organisational enrolment. Individual availability depends on eligible Premium or Pro subscriptions and the staged rollout. Confirm the signed-in tenant, region, administrator settings and actual feature flag before promising a launch date to users. A public announcement is not evidence that the feature is enabled in a specific UK account.
Run one bounded agent pilot
Choose a repetitive, reversible workflow such as assembling a weekly internal brief from approved sources. Freeze the input set and acceptance criteria. Record which files and systems were accessed, every proposed and completed action, human approvals, unsupported claims, failed tool calls, elapsed time, reviewer minutes and usage credits. Compare the complete result with the existing manual route before enabling more data, actions or persistence.
HubAI buyer verdict
The new design makes Microsoft 365 Copilot a stronger shortlist candidate for organisations already governed around Microsoft 365. The useful buying distinction is fixed access versus metered agent work: a seat can open the surface without fixing the cost of persistent execution. Pilot Home and Code before Autopilot, keep Managed Runtime and FinOps controls in scope, and expand only when accepted-work evidence justifies the additional permissions and spend. Microsoft 365 Copilot remains Test pending with no HubAI Score.
