Innovate UK’s Assurance and Compliance strand is open to eligible UK SME-led collaborations. Phase 1 requests are £100,000–£200,000; the programme’s larger headline budget is not an individual award.

01
THE CONTEXT

An open round, not an automatic award

The official Assurance and Compliance competition lists a deadline of 8 December 2026 at 11am UK time. It forms part of BridgeAI Deployment Catalyst Phase 1. Innovate UK describes up to £5 million for the phase and an expected programme total of up to £52 million across three phases, subject to approvals and sufficient quality applications. Neither figure is a grant promised to one applicant.

02
WHY IT MATTERS

Who needs to be in the room

The competition requires a UK-registered SME lead with an existing AI or ML minimum viable product at TRL 5 or 6, alongside an eligible UK deployer. The minimum consortium has two organisations and the maximum is three. The stated grant request is £100,000–£200,000 for a three-to-five-month project. Read the full sector, cost-share and project-date conditions before assuming your organisation qualifies.

03
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

Show the compliance problem, not just the chatbot

This strand concerns AI used to monitor, test, verify or evidence compliance with defined requirements, standards or controls. A useful preparation exercise is to name the requirement, the operational user, the evidence the system produces and how a reviewer can challenge it. That exercise is editorial guidance, not confirmation that a particular proposal is in scope or that the resulting tool will meet a legal obligation.

04
THE CONTEXT

Separate a pilot plan from a funding decision

Ask the prospective deployer what data, staff time and operational setting it can genuinely contribute. Identify unresolved issues before writing benefits as if they were delivered outcomes. Keep an evidence register of assumptions and agree who can validate them. Do not commit spending on the expectation of an award. A strong-looking application can still be unfunded in a competitive round.

Where to check the next step

Use the official competition page for the current guidance, application questions and contact route. Read all eligibility and funding sections, not only this summary. No application has been submitted on your behalf, and this report is not grant, subsidy-control or individual legal advice.
