Model card
By HubAI editorial team · Source checked: 24 October 2026What does it mean?
Documentation describing a model, its intended use, evaluation and known limitations. Read it as a starting point for understanding a model, not as an independent certificate of safety or quality.
Picture this
You are considering a model for reading fictional invoice scans. Its card describes text-only evaluation, but no scanned-document tests. That gap tells you what you still need to investigate.
Where you’ll come across it
Shortlisting models and recording what a supplier actually documents. Look for the exact version, evaluation conditions, language coverage and links to the applicable licence.
What it doesn’t mean
A polished document can still leave important questions unanswered. Missing detail is a reason to investigate, not evidence that a capability, right or protection is present.
Read the small print before the leaderboard
A short exercise · use fictional or non-sensitive material.
- Find the documentation for the exact model version you are considering. Do not substitute a product marketing page.
- Look for intended uses, known limitations, training information, evaluation conditions and the applicable licence link.
- Write down one question the card does not answer about your own workload. Treat that as a follow-up, not an implied capability.
Which claims are documented, and which still need relevant evidence?
