Unconfigured Copilot features can inherit a global default during the rollout through 26 October. Check what your organisation has actually chosen.
The setting worth checking before Monday
If your team uses Copilot Business or Enterprise, ask its administrator to look at Default policy for new features under AI Controls → Copilot. GitHub says enforcement is rolling out between 22 and 26 October, with eligible unconfigured settings taking the selected global policy. Existing explicit feature choices are preserved. Preview features remain opt-in. The announcement covers eligible settings under Features & clients and MCP servers in Copilot; it does not establish that every feature is available to every account.
Why changing the default later is not a rewind button
The easily missed detail is the one-time assignment. GitHub says a later change to the global default will not alter feature policies already set. Our practical advice is to record the effective settings, not just the value of the default. A screenshot or exported record kept privately by your administrator can help the next reviewer understand what changed. Do not put account details or internal policy records into a public support thread.
Make the review small enough to finish
You do not need to turn a settings check into an organisation-wide AI strategy exercise. Start with the capabilities your team actually uses. For each, write down who owns the decision, which work is permitted and where a person must approve an action. For example, drafting a response and sending it are different permissions. That is a suggested review method, not a claim about the precise controls supplied by this rollout.
Keep convenience separate from production permission
A team may welcome a new feature while still needing a restricted trial. Use a non-sensitive task, keep the existing review process and decide what failure would make you stop. Ask the administrator to confirm the effective policy on the actual organisation rather than assuming a change has reached everyone at once. We have checked the announcement, not your tenant or a live deployment. The accompanying image is an original conceptual illustration, not a GitHub settings screen.
HUBAI VIEWA default is an operational decision, not an approval for every workflow. Review the effective feature settings with the person responsible for your organisation’s AI access.

What to verify next
1Find the effective default with your administrator.
2Inspect eligible settings that were previously unconfigured.
3Record explicit exceptions and the responsible owner.
4Check individual settings again after any later default change.
